Walk with Jesus

BORN AGAIN?
WALK THE WALK!

"Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth WATER into a bason, and began to WASH THE DISCIPLES' FEET, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. Jesus saith to him, HE THAT IS WASHED NEEDETH NOT SAVE TO WASH HIS FEET, BUT IS CLEAN EVERY WHIT: AND YE ARE CLEAN ..." (John 13:3-10)

The Lord Jesus here is using symbolic language. The word "water" is symbolic for the Word of God, and the word "wash" symbolizes the new birth or regeneration. In John chapter 3 the Lord said:

"... Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." (John 3:5-8)

The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Church of the Ephesians tells us:

"... Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word." (Ephesians 5:25-26; cf Isaiah 55:9-11)

The Apostle John also wrote:

"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy Word is truth." (John 17:17)

Paul writing to Titus also said:

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." (Titus 3:5-7)

It, therefore, is apparent that that "water" is a type or picture of the Word of God which the Holy Spirit uses to regenerate us when we believe it's truth. Only one such washing is needed.

But since we still "walk" in this filthy world we need our feet washed frequently! Therefore, the Lord continues to wash our feet "with the washing of water by the Word."

WALK IN JESUS:

"Then spake Jesus ..., saying, I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD: HE THAT FOLLOWETH ME SHALL NOT WALK IN DARKNESS, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12)

"If we say that we have fellowship with him, and WALK IN DARKNESS, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we WALK IN THE LIGHT, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1 John 1:6-7)

"Teach me thy way, O LORD; I WILL WALK IN THY TRUTH: unite my heart to fear thy name." (Psalm 86:11)

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children WALK IN TRUTH." (3 John 4)

"And this is love, that we WALK AFTER HIS COMMANDMENTS. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should WALK in it." (2 John 6)

"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so WALK YE IN HIM: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving." (Colossians 2:6-7)

"For we are his workmanship, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS UNTO GOOD WORKS, which God hath before ordained that WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM." (Ephesians 2:10)

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT." (Romans 8:1-4)

"This I say then, WALK IN THE SPIRIT, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. ... If we live in the Spirit, let us also WALK IN THE SPIRIT." (Galatians 5:16-17, 25)

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE." (Romans 6:4)

"Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they WALK IN HIS WAYS." (Psalm 119:2-3)

"For we WALK BY FAITH, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7)

WIN PEOPLE TO CHRIST:

"WALK IN WISDOM toward them that are without, redeeming the time." (Colossians 4:5)

"And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THEM THAT PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

"For THOUGH WE WALK IN THE FLESH, WE DO NOT WAR AFTER THE FLESH: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

"See then that ye WALK CIRCUMSPECTLY, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil." (Ephesians 5:15-16)

WALK IN LOVE:

"Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And WALK IN LOVE, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." (Ephesians 5:1-2)

WALK TO PLEASE GOD:

"LET US WALK HONESTLY, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying." (Romans 13:13)

"And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may WALK HONESTLY TOWARD THEM THAT ARE WITHOUT, and that ye may have lack of nothing." (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12)

"... be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians1:9-10)

"That ye would WALK WORTHY OF GOD, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory." (1 Thessalonians 2:12)

"Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to WALK AND TO PLEASE GOD, so ye would abound more and more." (1 Thessalonians 4:1)

OUR FUTURE WALK:

"And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and THE LAMB IS THE LIGHT thereof. And the nations of THEM WHICH ARE SAVED SHALL WALK IN THE LIGHT of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it." (Revelation 21:23-24)

THE WALK OF THE WICKED:

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, WALKING AFTER THEIR OWN LUSTS." (2 Peter 3:3)

"For MANY WALK ... THE ENEMIES OF THE CROSS OF CHRIST: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things." (Philippians 3:18-19)

"But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should WALK AFTER THEIR OWN UNGODLY LUSTS." (Jude 17-18)

"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that WALK AFTER THE FLESH IN THE LUST OF UNCLEANNESS, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities." (2 Peter 2:9-10)

MAKE SURE YOU'RE SAVED:

"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he WALK NAKED, and they see his shame." (Revelation 16:15)

"This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth WALK NOT AS OTHER GENTILES WALK, IN THE VANITY OF THEIR MIND, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart." (Ephesians 4:17-18)
